A Gaiwan is a type of Chinese tea cup. Tea lovers use Gaiwan to brew Gong fu tea. It is typically made of porcelain or ceramic and has a lid that helps to keep the tea hot. The cup is small and typically holds around 3 ounces of liquid.
Gaiwans are popular because they allow the tea leaves to fully expand and release their flavor. When brewing tea with a Gaiwan, the leaves are placed in the cup and hot water is added. The lid is then placed on top of the cup to keep the heat in. The tea is steeped for a few minutes and then the lid is removed so that the tea can be served.
The Gaiwan is a great way to brew tea because it allows you to control the steeping time and temperature. This allows you to get the most out of your tea leaves and enjoy a delicious cup of tea.
How to brew with Gaiwan
Brewing tea with a Gaiwan is a simple and rewarding experience. Here are a few tips to help you get started:
Choose your tea. A good quality tea is essential for a great cup of tea. Make sure to select a tea that you enjoy and that is suited for brewing with a Gaiwan.
Warm your Gaiwan. To do this, rinse it with hot water or use a tea kettle to pour hot water into the Gaiwan and then pour it out.
Add the tea leaves to the Gaiwan. A general rule of thumb is to use about 2 grams of tea leaves per 100 ml of water.
Shake the Gaiwan and appreciate the aroma. The warmth of the Gaiwan will activate the aroma of the tea leaves.
Pour hot water over the tea leaves and let them steep for the desired time. Depending on the type of tea you are brewing, the steeping time will vary.
Once the tea has finished steeping, tilt the lid slightly to allow the liquid to come out. Hold the Gaiwan with your thumb and middle finger and put your first finger on the lid button. Tilt the gaiwan a little bit and pour out the liquid into a Gongdao cup.
Share the tea into your cup from Gongdao cup and enjoy!
