🌿 Unveiling the Elegance of the 《Longwen Han Ping》龙文汉瓶🌿
This teapot may seem unfamiliar to many tea friends. It is a style created by the late Ming to early Qing Dynasty Yixing master Xu Longwen. Originally part of Gong Xinzhao’s collection, it eventually found its way to the Seikado Art Museum in Tokyo due to various circumstances.
Some enthusiasts have grouped it with three other Xu Longwen works and four other outstanding pieces from the same era, calling them the “Eight Immortals of Jingxi,” highlighting its esteemed position in the teapot community.
The 《Han Ping》 in today’s image is a work from a few years ago by our esteemed teacher. Compared to the original’s thick and ancient charm, this one is noticeably more relaxed and elegant, with more graceful spout and handle lines and a more delicate body proportion, incorporating more modern aesthetic elements.
Qing Dynasty painter Shi Tao once had a famous theory about painting, advocating that “brush and ink should follow the times.” Applying this to Yixing art seems just as fitting. Sometimes, when an artist reaches a certain stage in replicating a work, appropriately incorporating new aesthetic elements can also be a form of innovation.
